The Balliol team have made it into the semi-finals of University Challenge 2016/2017, having won against Corpus Christi College, Oxford, 240-160.

Professor Adam Smyth (Professor of English Literature and the History of the Book, Clarendon University Lecturer, A.C. Bradley-J.C. Maxwell Fellow and Tutor in English Literature) has created a podcast in which he talks to cataloguer Lucy Kelsall and book conservator Nikki Tomkins about the 17th-century library of Nicholas Crouch, now in Balliol, and how to deal with fragile books.

The Balliol University Challenge team beat Birmingham University in their second quarter-final match on 7 March 2017.

In Torpids 2017, Balliol’s second women’s boat got blades and moved up into division four, while the men’s first boat improved to seventh on the river, up two from last year.
