Ciara Garcha (Balliol 2023) has been named one of BBC History Extra’s ‘30 under 30’ young historians for 2024.
The ‘30 under 30’ competition was launched earlier in 2024 in collaboration with historian, presenter and author Alice Lexton. Ciara was chosen in recognition of her research work on South Asian history, particularly post-1948 migrations to Britain, which was featured as part of South Asian Heritage Month UK.
Ciara commented: ‘It’s amazing to be recognised in the 30 under 30 list, alongside so many other brilliant historians. Exploring Britain’s diverse, and often obscured, histories is so important today; Oxford and Balliol were great places for me to do this work. It’s such an exciting time to be a young historian and I’m very grateful for this recognition.’
