We are thrilled that the Master’s Field Development has won a 2022 RIBA National Award.
The development – which means that Balliol is now able to offer undergraduate students accommodation for all years of their course and has 60 more rooms for graduate students than it did previously — had already won two regional RIBA awards: a RIBA South Award 2022 and the RIBA South Project Architect of the Year 2022.
The project was entered into a pool of other regional winners and the new award is one of 29 ‘given to buildings across the UK in recognition of their significant contributions to architecture’. You can see the full RIBA list here.
.
Announcing the national awards, RIBA President Simon Alford said he was ‘very pleased to see new and innovative solutions to meet the ever-growing demand for high quality, energy-efficient homes, showing what can be achieved by forward-thinking clients’. The winning projects will now go forward for consideration for the Stirling Prize shortlist.
The project was designed for Balliol by Niall McLaughlin Architects and its success in the national RIBA competition is one that we share with them and with many others who played a part: BAM Construction Ltd; project managers Bidwells; Environmental/M&E Engineers Harley Haddow; Smith and Wallwork Engineers; construction consultants Gleeds; Turnberry Planning; and Bidwells Urban Design Studio.
