The imminent completion of new student rooms at the Master’s Field means that from Michaelmas 2021 Balliol will be able to house all undergraduates for all the years of their course, as well as providing new rooms for postgraduate students.
At the site, construction on the remaining accommodation blocks is largely completed. The focus is now on finishing touches such as finalising the Block D1 common room and doing inspections and making-good works. BAM Construction, the contractor, will hand over these buildings to the College by the beginning of March.
Landscaping has been completed to the north of the site and is now being done around the sports pavilion, the car park and the southern entrance. Railings and gates are to be installed and the new garden wall completed.
The sports pavilion will be finished shortly afterwards. There, the basement squash court is finished and other areas below the ground are nearly ready. Externally, work has begun on the glazing, canopy and façade, while internally, the fitting-out of the main hall, kitchen and entrance is under way.
The photographs below (by Stuart Bebb) are all taken outside the site, from St Cross Road and Jowett Walk.
