Medieval manuscripts exhibition

9-10 September 2017 and all Michaelmas Term
Balliol Historic Collections Centre, St Cross Church, Manor Road OX1 3UH

A new exhibition of medieval manuscripts will be open throughout Michaelmas Term (until 10 December).

‘Change and Decay: A History of Damage and Conservation in Balliol’s Medieval Manuscripts’, curated by Balliol’s Archivist and Curator of Manuscripts, Anna Sander, includes more than 20 of Balliol’s 300+ original medieval manuscript codices and a number of contemporary documents from the College records; and it highlights a decade of work on the archives and manuscripts by the team of professional conservators at the Oxford Conservation Consortium, of which Balliol has been a member since 2006. There is more information about the exhibition here.

Individual and group visitors are very welcome almost any time by appointment. Visiting hours are normally Monday to Friday 10.00am-1.00pm and 2.00-5.00pm (the exhibition and reading room are in the same space and we need to plan ahead to ensure that visitors and researchers are here at different times). Please come!

Public opening hours: Oxford Open Doors Saturday 9 September and Sunday 10 September, 12.00-4.00pm on both days.

On Saturday 16 September: open for Old Members attending the Balliol Society Weekend and for the University Alumni Weekend, 2.30-6.30pm.

See the Balliol Archives website for details of how to find St Cross. For disabled access, please contact the Archivist in advance.
