The Carl Woodall launch, belonging to Balliol College Boat Club, has had a complete overhaul and is now riverworthy again, thanks to a generous donation by Carl Woodall himself, Fellow and Domestic Bursar of Balliol 2000–2009.
The work was carried out by Balliol’s Boatman, Tom Stewardson, who has repaired and reconditioned the hulls, done some work on the engine and replaced the fuel tank. He also reinstalled the passenger seat, which had been removed for some reason.
Having been ‘not in great shape’, according to Tom, the Carl Woodall launch is now fit for purpose and back on the water for use by current members of the Boat Club and those who are yet to come.
‘After a number of breakdowns last year, the full refit of Carl Woodall will be of great benefit to the Boat Club,’ said the BCBC President, Alec Berry. ‘Together with our other launch, Pegotty G2, Carl Woodall gives us great flexibility while training down at Abingdon, and enables our coaches to give us high-quality feedback. We would like to extend our thanks to Carl for his generous donation and continued support of the Boat Club.’
