The College is greatly saddened to learn of the death of Jean Blumberg on 14 March 2023. She was the widow of Baruch (Barry) Blumberg, Master of Balliol 1989–1994.
Jean Blumberg (née Liebesman), an artist, married Dr Blumberg in 1954. They were married for 57 years and had four children, Anne, Jane, George and Noah, and nine grandchildren. Jean’s parents encouraged her early interest in art and, when her own children were in school, Jean began her training at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). She studied with Jimmy Leuders, Liz Osborne, Marshall Glasier and others in PAFA’s certificate program and with printmaker Marty Zelt at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. She exhibited her work in Oxford and at both local and national galleries in the United States.
