Graduate student Jessica Gorrill is one of the winners of the Naturejobs science journalism competition.
Jessica, who is reading for an MSc in Radiation Biology, won the competition with an article about the role scientists need to play in outreach. As one of three winners, she was invited to cover Naturejobs’ career expo in London, billed as ’the world’s largest dedicated career fair’, and was given the opportunity to work closely with Nature editors and to learn the trade of a Nature journalist for a day.
On winning the award, Jessica said: ‘I am really excited to be working with some of the top editors in science journalism to develop my writing style. It’s a big honour and I hope to use the career expo to introduce young scientists to the multitude of career routes available and help dispel anxiety about job searching.’
