Sudhir Hazareesingh writes about French presidential election result

Thursday 11 May

Sudhir Hazareesingh (Fellow and Tutor in Politics) has written about the May 2017 French presidential election result, exploring how the victory of Emmanual Macron is ’that of an insurgent candidate who swept away the French establishment, presenting himself as the modern symbol of provincial republican meritocracy, and enduring French ideals of progress, rationalism and fraternity’. The article, entitled ‘Man of the People’, has been published in the Times Literary Supplement.

There is also an accompanying TLS podcast interview with Sudhir: States of Nations (first 15 minutes).

Sudhir is author of How the French Think (Penguin, 2016).
