Teaching Spaces

Balliol has a number of bookable teaching spaces at Broad Street and Jowett Walk which have been audited to determine capacity limits whilst maintaining a 1-metre-plus social distance between users. The user capacity for each space is listed below. 

General information

  • Face coverings must be worn.
  • Hand sanitation facilities available either on the way into or inside all teaching spaces and must be used by all attendees.
  • All users to clean individual spaces after use (seat, desks, chair arms etc). Additional appropriate cleaning materials available for user cleaning.
  • A suitable ‘buffer slot’ will be utilised between booked sessions to allow for user cleaning and to prevent overlap of student groups arriving and leaving.
  • No communal stationery equipment provision available (whiteboard markers etc). Any equipment left in rooms will be disposed of.
  • Porters Lodge to provide clear directions to non-resident students on the required route to a teaching space.

Booking guide

  • Bookings can be made by emailing room.bookings@balliol.ox.ac.uk, stating preferred date and time, duration and number of attendees. 
  • Bookings must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Should a particular room configuration be required this must be requested at least 3 working days in advance as it may not be possible.
  • Rooms have limited availability during a Saturday, and are unavailable for bookings in the evenings or on a Sunday without prior arrangement, due to reduced cleaning schedules. 

Teaching space users

  • All rooms must be well ventilated, windows opened where possible whilst in use.
  • Each person will wipe down the area they personally occupied (table, chair) with wipes or disinfectant spray provided.
  • One nominated person in each meeting is to be responsible for ensuring user cleaning takes place and for wiping down other high touch areas such as IT equipment, door handles and equipment controls etc.
  • All refuse and recycling to be placed by users into the bins provided.
  • All surfaces to be cleared of debris by the user after each meeting.
  • No eating or drinking will take place in shared spaces.
  • No personal belongings or equipment to be left in the room.
