Data Experience Lab

Project summary

Though we live in the era of ‘big data’, we have no corresponding ‘big representation’. A large and growing asymmetry exists between our ability to measure the world and our ability to represent it in intuitive ways that are conducive to understanding. In particular, efforts at digital data visualisation have not fully explored possibilities afforded by the immersive and multisensory capabilities of digital space. This project aims to advance research in this area by using the latest virtual- and augmented-reality technologies to represent large and complex data sets as environments to be experienced, educating and engaging the Oxford community on these topics in the process.
