As Dean, James is responsible for matters of non-academic discipline among the College’s undergraduate members, according to the rules set out in 3.1 and 3.2. He is mindful of pastoral, medical, and academic considerations, and therefore works closely with senior College Officers, Tutors and the wellbeing and welfare team, for the good of the College community and its members. If any undergraduate student is taken to hospital, the Dean should be informed as soon as possible.

He is always happy to meet with undergraduates. In general meetings should be arranged with the Dean’s Secretary, Dr Ilaria Gualino (deans.secretary@balliol.ox.ac.uk; tel. 01865 277768); in an emergency or in relation to urgent personal problems he can be contacted via the College Lodge on 01865 277777.
