Denis Healey (photo by Ian Taylor)Diaries and letters written by the Labour politician Denis Healey (Balliol 1936 and Honorary Fellow 1979-2015) have been acquired by the Bodleian Libraries in Oxford. Lord Healey, who served as defence secretary and Chancellor of the Exchequer in the 1960s and 1970s, was a student at Balliol. He describes the 1930s as ‘a wonderful period in which to have been at Oxford’, and how his time at Balliol shaped him - he was involved in the Labour and Communist parties - in an interview with Floreat Domus, the College magazine, in 2007.

Chris Fletcher, Keeper of Special Collections at the Bodleian Libraries, said of the collection: ‘It’s particularly appropriate that it will be kept in Oxford, where he began his political career.’ Further details about its contents and interest are on the Bodleian website.
