Professor Sir Christopher Ricks (Balliol 1953, Honorary Fellow) has won, with co-editor Jim McCue, the Modernist Studies Association 2017 Book Prize for an Edition, Anthology, or Essay Collection for The Poems of T.S. Eliot (Faber & Faber, 2015).

The Modernist Studies Association described the critical edition of Eliot’s poems - a nine-year project - as ‘a landmark in modernist scholarship and poetry editing’, ‘magisterial in its range, depth and scope, and the finesse of the editorial policy and practice is matchless’. The book includes Eliot’s uncollected verse, including love poems to his wife, scholarly commentary for each of his poems and major projects, and a new reading text of drafts of The Waste Land.
