Oxford Nanopore reveals USB-size DNA sequencing device

Tuesday 13 March

Oxford Nanopore, the 2005 spin-out company of Balliol Old Member and professor of Chemistry Hagan Bayley, has revealed the first genome to be sequenced using a nanopore. The product, called MinION, is about the size of a USB memory stick and is the first step towards sequencing a human genome in 15 minutes. This development puts the UK company at the forefront of the race to produce faster, cheaper and more accurate DNA sequencing.
