Balliol scientists and CO2 breakthrough

Wednesday 20 January (All day)

Balliol's Professor Dermot O'Hare and Dr Andrew Ashley have published a paper on converting carbon dioxide and hydrogen into methanol. A New Scientist article discusses how 'with a bit of clever chemistry', CO2 could become a feedstock for alternative fuels or find a role in cooling freezers rather than warming the atmosphere. O’Hare and Ashley have demonstrated how to turn CO2 into methanol at the relatively low temperature of 160°C and at standard pressure.
