New Year Honours
Tuesday 2 February (All day)Five Balliol alumni have received Honours in the British and Australian Honours Lists for 2010.
James Fairfax (1952, and Honorary Fellow) has been elevated from AO (Officer of the Order of Australia) to AC (Companion of the Order of Australia) in this year's Australia Day Honours List. You can also read an article about him in The Australian newspaper.
Edward Mortimer (1962, and Honorary Fellow) has been awarded the CMG (Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George) for services to international communications and journalism. He is Senior Vice-President and Chief Program Officer of the Salzburg Global Seminar, Austria.
Hugh Powell (1985) lately UK Senior Representative in Helmand, Afghanistan, has also been awarded the CMG.
Lieutenant General Simon Mayall (1975) has been appointed CB (Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath).
Cressida Dick (1979), Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police Force, has been awarded the Queen’s Medal for Distinguished Service. You can also read a feature about her from The Times newspaper.
