Access to Learning Fund

The Access to Learning Fund is a hardship fund based on government guidelines for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students; it is therefore not available to all students. It is designed to provide financial aid to students with a Home fee status who experience hardship and require extra help to meet their living costs; awards are made to students who are most in need. We strongly encourage any Balliol students who are eligible to apply to do so.

Type of award:
Welfare and hardship
Eligibility or selection criteria:

All undergraduates and postgraduates who have Home fee status. Suspended students are also eligible to apply.

Before applying for a grant, full-time undergraduates must have taken out the maximum government student loan to which they are entitled, unless there is a good reason why this is not the case.

Amount awarded:

Grants are given in amounts assessed according to need, up to a maximum of £2,500 in exceptional circumstances. They are paid in termly instalments directly from the University.

How and when to apply:

Application forms are available from the Student Finance Officer. These awards are administered centrally by the University’s Student Funding office on a rolling basis. Applications are accepted between Monday of 0th week of Michaelmas Term until Friday of 9th week of Trinity Term. Please allow at least seven days for the Student Finance Officer to process your application.
